My life hasn’t been that interesting. Why on earth do my kids or grandkids want to read a book about it?
Many people feel this way--until they see the reaction of their children and grandchildren to the book! Every life story is fascinating, because every life is unique and unfolds in its own way.

How much will this cost?
The cost of your personal history project will depend on many factors, such as

    •the length of the book

    •the number of pictures and other memorabilia,

    •the amount of touch-up the pictures require

    •the type of binding you prefer.

We will discuss all of this duriing our free initial consultation. Many families pool their resources to cover the cost, and I offer credit card options.

How long will it take to complete the book?
It depends on your project. For a personal history, you should

allow a minimum of 4 to 6 months. Smaller projects such as memorial books can be completed more quickly. Larger ones such as family histories could require a year or more to complete.

What are the interviews like?
My goal in the interviews is to have a warm, personal conversation that allows you to feel free to share your memories and experiences. I try to let the interview be guided by your story as you tell it, rather than going over a list of questions. The themes and areas of your life you discuss are completely up to you. Of course, I do ask questions as we go along to gather more details, to understand your experiences more completely, and to bring out areas you may have forgotten to mention.

Where will we meet for the interviews?
We will meet in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

What if I have some things I don’t want to talk about?
It’s totally up to you to decide what you want to talk about. After all, it’s your story!

Can I remove something from the story before it’s completed?
You will have two opportunities to review the manuscript. You may remove anything you wish.

Do you travel?
I am delighted to travel to any destination in the U.S. or Canada. In the Denver metro area I do not charge for travel. In the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, I charge only for car rental. For all other destinations, I invoice all travel expenses except meals. I am a very thrifty traveler.

Will anyone else be present during the interviews?
In most cases, no one else is present. However, if there are speaking disability issues or mild dementia, it can be helpful to have a family member’s assistance.

Can you create a story about just part of my life?
I would be happy to work with you on any life history project you have in mind.

Can you write a life history of a couple or a family?
I certainly can. .

Can you make a book where others write and collect their memories about a person?
Yes. These memory books are especially wonderful in celebrating a “big” birthday or as a memorial book after the death of a loved one.
