Get to Know Me--Peg Thompson, PhD
I wrote my first book when I was 7 years old -- an alphabet book illustrated with clippings from magazines! It took about 40 years to write the next one, Finding Your Own Spiritual Path, published in 1994 and still in print. I have also published articles in several areas in both professional and lay journals, and kept a personal journal for over 30 years.
I love being involved with people as they tell their stories and discern what is most important to them. In the past few years I have helped elders write their life stories, as well as guiding people of many ages as they wrote ethical wills or legacy letters. I am a member of the Association of Personal Historians (www.personalhistorians.org).
As a personal historian, I work with a wide variety of clients. However, because of my background as a psychologist I have expertise in working with elders with mild dementia; a history of mental illness, substance abuse, or depression; and experiences of personal crisis, transformation or trauma. My training and experience as a nondenominational spiritual companion (see www.sdiworld.com for more information) enables me to write life stories that have significant spiritual or religious elements. I have received extensive training in working with older people and have especially enjoyed my work with older clients.
A personal note
I grew up in a camping and fishing family in Denver, Colorado. Recently I have returned home to Denver after 40 years in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
At home, I love to garden and can grow just about anything, indoors or out -- so much so that people give me their beloved but half-dead plants to revive and I usually can give them back in good shape. (I call them my rescue plants)
I love to spend time camping in the mountains. If there is a mountain trout stream that requires a hike to reach, so much the better. That's because I am a passionate flyfisher and enthusiastic bird and wildlife watcher.
Reading is one of my greatest pleasures--everything from memoirs to mysteries.
